Patrol Division

Mission Statement

To protect the life, individual liberty and property as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States, of all people within the County of Wise. To preserve the peace and prevent crime. Investigating criminal activity and apprehending criminals. To develop and maintain a positive relationship with members of the community. To foster a positive working environment for all employees.

 

The Patrol Division provides twenty-four hour proactive patrol of Wise County, as well as reactive response to calls for service. It is also responsible for traffic control and enforcement, preservation of crime scene evidence, and K-9 activities. The Patrol Division is divided into three shifts. Captain Edward Grant Kilgore commands the Patrol Division. A Field Lieutenant heads each shift.  All shifts have access to specialized units. Each patrol shift is responsible for answering calls for service and enforcement. Other Patrol Division responsibilities include


1.  Canine: This function is responsible for answering calls for service and enforcement as requested as well as providing back-up assistance, building searches, tracking/locating persons, etc.

2.      School Resource/D.A.R.E./Crime Prevention/Community Oriented Policing or Relations:  This function conducts the School Resource and D.A.R.E. Programs in the    County of Wise.  This function is also responsible for implementing and    conducting crime prevention activities with the public.  In addition, it    conducts community relation’s functions to increase citizen awareness of the department's operations and provides assistance to citizens by aiding them with problem solving techniques designed to reduce or eliminate crime in their neighborhoods. 

3.      Civil Process: This function receives, processes, and serves all legal       documents requiring Sheriff’s service. 

4.      Sheriff’s Response Team:  This function responds to critical incidents related to barricaded subjects, hostage incidents, sniper incidents, raids and other emergency situations. 

5.      Domestic Violence:  This function receives, processes, and provides seventy-two hour follow up on all domestic violence cases.
