911 Communications Center

 

Mission Statement

To enhance the quality of life of every person in Wise County, Virginia, by receiving and processing 9-1-1 emergency calls and non-emergency calls and by dispatching Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Service units in a prompt, efficient, courteous and professional manner, to help save lives, protect property, and assist the public; making Wise County a safer community in which to live, work and visit.


The Communications Division, utilizing the telephone, radio, 911 Connie Austin commands this function.

  1. Good Morning Wise County:  This function requires dispatchers to call             elderly citizens enrolled in the program, on a daily basis, to check on                their welfare and dispatch assistance as needed.

  2. E-911 Dispatch:  This function requires emergency and routine dispatching service for all emergency service providers and provides emergency           medical dispatch service to citizens via the 911 lines.

 Each dispatcher must pass certification requirements form the Department of Criminal Justice Services and be trained and certified in giving medical advice over the telephone and radio.
